  1. Nexus 1000v Keygen 1

VMware NSX for vSphere is built on top of vSphere Distributed Switch and cannot be run on top of Cisco Nexus 1000v. If you have vSphere environment already operating with Cisco Nexus 1000v and you are considering a jump to the API driven NSX world, this article will also help you understand the benefits and disadvantages of making that jump. No new information was added to the Cisco Nexus 1000V License Configuration Guide 4.2(1)SV1(5.1). New and Changed Information in Release 4.2(1)SV1(4a) vEthernet interfaces—vEthernet interfaces are no longer brought down immediately when their licenses expire.

* Upgraded vSphere 4.1 -> 5.1

Nexus 1000v Keygen 1

* Nexus 1000v installed in 4.1, still there in 5.1

* Nexus VSM/VEM version 5.2 (supported by Cisco for vSphere 5.1), VSM at new version prior to vSphere 4.1 upgrade, VEMs not upgraded (fresh installs on fresh ESXi 5.1 installations)

* Enterprise Plus licenses

Basically, the issue is that, after the upgrade, the Nexus VSM still connects to vCenter without any problems, and vMotion between existing hosts works fine (all existing hosts are still ESX 4.1). New ESXi 5.1 hosts with manually installed Nexus VEM add to vCenter just fine, but when right-clicking the Nexus VDS object and choosing 'Add Host..' no hosts show, and they also do not show under 'View Incompatible Hosts...'.

The strange thing is if I create a brand new Nexus 1000V VSM, and install it into the upgraded vCenter 5.1, the hosts show there. But my licenses from Cisco are hard coded to the Nexus 1000V serial number that was there previously.

My question is, can anyone assist me in determining why the new ESXi 5.1 hosts show up in the new/fresh Nexus 1000V (running version 5.2), but not in the pre-existing Nexus 1000V (also running 5.2) ? I have a TAC case open with Cisco, and they have spent some time troubleshooting the Nexus side of things, but we cannot find anything different - the versions of the two are exactly the same of both firmwares, and the config is identical (other than obvious differences - unique DVS ID, etc.). And I would like to avoid the pain of migrating everything (especially licensing) over to a 'new' Nexus 1000V install.

Interestingly, we upgraded a different location from 5.0 -> 5.1 and I had no issues with the Nexus 1000V there. Is there something with 4.1 -> 5.1 that could affect the Nexus or dvs that Nexus sits on top of?

I am interested to hear any ideas on how to troubleshoot it from the vSphere side.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
